RAFW Day 3 Recap

A recap of a few of my favourite shows from day 3 at RAFW.

Show 1 - Lisa Ho
The latest installment from Lisa Ho is a beautiful mix of earthy tones with splashes of sky blue and peach. Polished lady like suits with crisp shirts, next to ethereal flowing gowns and tribal prints. Love the shorts below, a great way to add a bit of spice to your outfit.

Show 2 - Dhini
A predominately black and white collection, with bursts of warm toned colours such as orange and pale yellow. Sheer floaty fabrics were teamed with a plethora of harem pants. Showing skin seemed to be the underlying theme in this collection, which was evident with the inclusion of several itty bitty play-suits with plunging necklines. Definitely not for the faint hearted!

Show 3 - Alice McCall
I know this is a big call but I going to go as far as saying that this collection was my favourite of Fashion Week this year. Yes I went there! I struggled to pick only a few pieces to put in this post, so I'm going to add a few more as I think it deserves it.
Another predominately white collection with beautiful vintage inspired patterns, cut out detailing and lattice style fabrics. High necklines and sheer fabric, an unbeatable combination that adds sex appeal to an outfit without showing too much skin. I'm a sucker for a pretty dress, and loved the styles with the fitted torso that kicked out at the hips. It's nice to see a classic style given a modern twist from the inclusion of cut out panels on the waist.

RAFW Day 2 Recap

I was lucky enough to sneak away from my uber busy study schedule to view the Marnie Skillings RAFW show last night. 

It had been a while since I was last inside the OPT, but let's just say the show did not disappoint. The atmosphere, the music, the front row (I may get over excited when I see all my favourite editors sitting only metres away), and of course the designs themselves.

Show 1 - Rachel Gilbert
I absolutely loved this collection, and I'm not sure if it was the unlikely combination of lime yellow, silver and black, or the amazing embellishments on several of the pieces, but it definitely left me wanting more. How stunning is the beaded gown below!

Show 2 - Manning Cartell
I love the Manning Cartell brand, other than being quite beautiful and timeless pieces, I also find that their collections are extremely wearable. More white (a definite trend appearing), coupled with paint splattered prints and maxi dresses. I love the 1920's style flapper dress at the bottom, tres chic!

Show 3 - Marnie Skillings  
Marnie's latest collection was feminine with a quirky twist. Pretty florals teamed with feather capelets and animal print hats. An unusual combination of items that oddly enough came together perfectly. Another collection heavily featuring high necklines and maxi dresses, both are shaping up to be must have items this spring. I on the other hand would love to get my mits on one of those feather capelets, as they looked quite amazing.

RAFW Day 1 Recap

Well like any other fashion loving blogger, the most important week of the year is finally upon us. Yes, you know what I'm talking about, Rosemount Australian Fashion Week.

It unfortunately just so happens that for me this is the last week of college for the trimester and I have been flat out with assessments. Watching all the coverage from the shows constantly popping up on Facebook can be somewhat distracting.

So I have decided to give into the overwhelming urge, and have decided to for go study for an hour of so to check out the full collections on Vogue.com.au. 

Just to recap day one, I thought I'd pull together some images for you from my favourite shows for the day. 

Show 1 - Zimmermann

Lots of White and cut out laser patterns, mixed with Zimmermann's usual bold floral prints. I am especially in love with the last photo of the one piece, I will definitely have to get my hands on one of them!

Show 2 - Bec & Bridge

Amazing prints... again! (must be a sign of things to come), suede in all shapes and forms, along with some very saucy off the shoulder numbers. Favourite item from the collection would have to be the little suede shorts, the perfect to addition to an outfit at any time of year.

Show 3 - Alex Perry

Well it seems as if Alex Perry has outdone himself yet again. I have to say when I looked through the collection I was in love with almost every piece. It was a bold mix of colours, which seemed to work perfectly together. Loving the high necklines and the embellishment.

Show 4 - Lover

In my opinion a label that can do no wrong. Every season they seem to release a collection that triumphs their last. A beautiful mix of lace, neutrals with a bold splash of red. I am very fond of the beiege lace dress with the red body suit worn underneath, ok so it may not be super practical but you have to admit it is as cute as hell.

Fawning for you...

I hate to admit it but the inevitable fact is that I have been neglecting my blog for the past month or so. College seems to be the all powerful dictator of my life, spare time flies out the window and I am chained to my desk for hours on end.
But with this unfortunate announcement I also bear good news. It is the last week of the trimester, and with only two assessments left to complete the finish line is clearly in sight.

The drawing close of one trimester and the beginning of another also marks an important and exciting point in my degree. We commence planning for our major design projects in 4 weeks. This is the very thing I have been working towards for the past year and a half.

So I guess now would be a great time to introduce you to my future baby, the project that I will nurture to life over the next 8 months. I present to you Fawn Magazine! Fawn will be an online media project, that will aim to inspire it's readers with an abundance of fashion, design, art and photography. In one word this magazine will represent creativity more than anything.

I have dreamed of starting something like this for the past 3 years, so to finally have the opportunity to make my dreams a reality is an extremely exciting prospect. Although Fawn Magazine is only it's initial planning stages, any support or feedback you might have towards the idea is warmly welcomed.

The Desert Rose

I have been mesmerised by the whimsical artistic style of Bec Winnel ever since I laid eyes on her artworks last year. I love her pastel colour palette and barely there drawings. Truely inspiring!

If you think her artwork looks familiar it's because I was so inspired by her art that I used a few of her pieces in a magazine layout I designed last years, you can check it out here.

Shoot Inspiration

College consumes so much of my time these days, so it is just so nice to have projects to work on that are a little bit different just to break things up a bit. 

I'm helping create a marketing and media strategy for a friends new bow-tie business and have started researching trend ideas for a fashion shoot I will be directing for the range. 

I want the shoot to be quirky, fun and preppy, so that it reflects the image of the brand. Here are just a few images that I have pulled that are really inspiring me. 

Can't wait for the shoot in a few of weeks.
 

 

Lust Have

I am totally lusting after these Zara a-line mini skirts. I found them online today while I was browsing the website in a brief moment of spare time. I love the clean lines, and the super short hemline gives the sometimes frumpy a-line an edgier look. They would be the perfect staple items to get me through the lingering hot days still left in the year, and would also look super cute with stockings in winter. Can't wait for the Zara store to open in Pitt St Mall, until then I guess I will just have to make do with checking out the Zara website.
